Afghanistan’s cultural landscape has been profoundly affected by ongoing political and social upheaval. Decades of conflict and recent political shifts have led to the outright ban of Afghan music and arts, pushing them toward extinction due to the absence of media platforms, financial support, and institutional backing. The current regime’s restrictions on artistic expression have further marginalized artists, depriving them of opportunities to showcase their talents and preserve the nation’s rich cultural heritage. Today, Afghanistan stands as the only country where music and the arts are entirely banned.
Currently in Afghanistan, artistic expression has been effectively outlawed, with severe repercussions. Women and girls are prohibited from studying or pursuing careers in the arts, while cultural landmarks and artistic works have been systematically destroyed or removed from public view. Meanwhile, museums, archives, and other cultural institutions have been shuttered, erasing vital parts of the nation’s artistic and historical legacy
